DIAMOND SEARCH TIPS
Carat Selection: There are many factors
that go into choosing the right carat size for you. Once you understand
the Four Cs you can make an informed decision. One woman may value color
and clarity while size is the top priority for another. While all high-quality
diamonds are beautiful, different wearers have different wants and needs.
Does she work with her hands? What is her ring size? What is her personal
style? All of these questions should be taken into consideration.
Color Selection: The difference in color
grade is nearly imperceptible to most people but it can make a major difference
in price. Diamond connoisseurs are partial to the colorless D-F range. Expanding
your search to the near colorless range of G-I is a great way to get excellent
value in a beautiful diamond. Shoppers working with a fixed budget and looking
for maximum size are wise to consider J-L diamonds. In diamond Colors of
H and below, Fluorescence may cause a diamond to appear whiter making that
stone more desirable.
Clarity Selection: Some inclusions can detract
from your diamond’s beauty and structural integrity and be seen by
the unaided eye. To play it safe look for a minimum grade of VS2. Customers
who venture into SI diamond territory can get exceptional value depending
on an inclusion’s location and size. Our expert staff can help you
to confirm that a diamond is eye-clean. Also, many people confuse high Clarity
with sparkle; to the unaided eye, a G-SI1 and G-IF would look exactly the
same. Furthermore, a better quality Cut Grade G-SI1 diamond would look livelier
than a lesser quality Cut Grade G-IF diamond.
Cut Grade Selection (not to be confused
with Shape):
Cut Grade is the most perplexing yet most important of the Four Cs. It
is the only man-made factor in a diamond’s value, determined by
the craftsman’s skill in transforming a rough stone into a sparkling
gem. Very few diamonds satisfy our criteria for Signature Cut or Ideal
Cut and result in Brilliance and Fire beyond compare – your safest
bet would be to stick with our Signature Cut diamonds, but our Ideal Cut
diamonds are very close 2nd best. Our Very-Good Cut diamonds will yield
a great value with minor compromises, appearing sparkly and brilliant
to the eye. A Good Cut diamond may exceed the preferred range for Depth
and Table percentages but still present a wonderful option for fine jewelry
with excellent value, beautiful fire and brilliance. Our expert team is
standing by to guide you through this process in finding the best option
for you. The best way to fully understand the 4 Cs and make smart choices
is to spend some time examining different diamonds in consultation with
one of
our gemologists. Schedule an in-store appointment or book an online
